报告摘要

Energy and environment are unquestionably among the major challenges of modern era. Fuel cells,  among other energy conversion devices, is emerging as one of the promising candidates for cleaner power generation due to its high efficiency, fuel flexibility and eco-friendly end products. Fuel cell converts the chemical energy of a fuel directly into electricity and is versatile in choice of fuel which enables a number of fuels to be utilized for power generation. Proton-conducting oxides are very important electrolyte materials for solid oxide fuel cells. The research on developing proton conductors at Tao's group will be presented in this talk.

Shanwen Tao is Professor in Nanotechnology for Energy Solutions at University of Strathclyde. Tao is associated with 5 patent applications and over 110 refereed journal papers. Tao and Irvine discovered an efficient redox stable anode (La0.75Sr0.25)Cr0.5Mn0.5O3-δ for SOFCs. His group has developed the first urea/urine fuel cell, and also developed the first direct ammonia fuel cell based on alkaline membrane electrolytes. Tao’s group led the research on electrochemical synthesis of ammonia and published the first paper on synthesis of ammonia directly from air and water at ambient conditions.  They developed the first highly conductive proton-conducting material in layered oxides.
